About

At ZoutePopcorn, I worked on a self-developed game mode called Radiation, which I would like to share with you as part of my portfolio. Radiation offered players a unique survival experience in a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by radioactive comets.

The story of Radiation took place on Earth, where various comets with high levels of radioactivity had struck. As a player, you began by waking up in a hospital and had to search for food and valuable items to survive. There were different radioactive zones scattered across the map, where you could find valuable loot. However, it was crucial not to stay in these zones for too long as the radiation was lethal. Fortunately, you had special protective gear that allowed you to stay longer in these areas and increase your chances of survival.

An interesting aspect of Radiation was the ability to collaborate with other players. You could form a group or join an existing one. Together, you could claim pieces of land and build your own base on them. The idea was that you could attack other groups' bases by breaking through their walls with explosives. Once inside, you could steal their valuable items and use them to strengthen yourself.

To engage in combat, Radiation offered a variety of weapons, including crossbows, rifles, pistols, and swords. The firearms were designed with a focus on realism, requiring you to aim and manage your ammunition strategically. This added an extra layer of tension and strategy to the game's battles.

Radiation was beloved by a dedicated group of players who enjoyed the challenging survival experience and the opportunity to cooperate or compete against each other. The game offered a unique blend of post-apocalyptic atmosphere, strategic gameplay, and thrilling battles.

I am proud of my contribution to Radiation, and I believe it serves as a good example of my skills in game development and creating engaging and immersive player experiences.

Mechanics

Yet to be showcased: Base building & raiding.

Crafting

This video showcases the process of crafting custom items in Radiation. The game features a wide array of custom items, which can be obtained by looting radiated zones or through crafting. Crafting provides players with a passive option to acquire the same items without solely relying on looting.

Guns

This video demonstrates how guns work in Radiation. Guns serve as the primary weapons in the game and engaging in player-versus-player combat with guns aligns well with the post-apocalyptic theme of Radiation.

Skins

This video showcases how players can obtain skins for their weapons. Skins serve as cosmetic enhancements that loyal players may be willing to pay for. This serves as a means for the server hosting the Radiation game to generate revenue through these skins.

Mines & farms

This video illustrates how to acquire resources through mines and farms. The mines contain ores that players can mine. When players mine the ores, they receive the corresponding item directly into their inventory, and the ore transforms into bedrock. After a certain period, a random ore will respawn, allowing players to continue mining. The farms serve as a food source that players can utilize. When a player harvests a crop, it automatically regrows, enabling players to gather an infinite amount of food.

Beds

This video illustrates how beds function in the game. Beds serve as spawn points that players can place on their group's land. When a player dies, they have the option to respawn at one of the beds. Once a player spawns on a bed, it triggers a cooldown period for that specific bed. If all beds are on cooldown, the player can choose to respawn at the default world spawn.

Monsters

This video showcases several monsters with unique custom abilities and characteristics, enhancing the game's appeal and providing additional challenges for players.

Looting & radiated zones

This video demonstrates how players can acquire items by looting in radiated zones. Radiated zones contain radiation that poses a threat to players. Entering these zones without proper preparation can be detrimental to a player's health. The zones have varying degrees of danger, with more hazardous zones offering better-quality items to be found.
